Data Engineer

The role

Dropbox seeks a Senior Data Engineer for its Analytics Data Engineering team within Data Science & AI Platform. The role focuses on architecting and constructing large-scale analytics pipelines from the ground up using contemporary big data technologies, without legacy constraints. You will shape data models, integrations, and platform strategy across the organization.

What you'd do

• Define company data assets and create Spark/SparkSQL jobs to populate data models
• Design data integrations, establish quality frameworks, and evaluate tools for data lineage tracking
• Develop long-term data platform strategy with business units and engineering teams for efficiency and scalability
• Own data architecture for large-scale projects while evaluating design and operational tradeoffs
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to understand data requirements
• Design and deploy sophisticated data models and visualizations supporting multiple use cases
• Optimize pipelines, dashboards, and systems to streamline data artifact development
• Provide occasional on-call support for operational issues and system stability

What they're looking for

• Minimum 5 years developing with Spark, Python, Java, C++, or Scala
• Minimum 5 years of SQL experience
• Minimum 5 years with schema design, dimensional modeling, and medallion architectures
• Hands-on experience with Databricks platform and data lake architectures
• Strong product thinking and cross-functional communication skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field with coding focus, or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining data processing systems

Nice to have

• 7+ years of SQL experience
• 7+ years with schema design, dimensional modeling, and medallion architectures
• Experience with Airflow or comparable orchestration frameworks
• Data quality monitoring implementation using MonteCarlo or similar platforms
