Frontend Product Software Engineer, Design Systems

The role

This frontend engineering role focuses on evolving Dropbox's design system platform while integrating AI agents and intelligent tooling into the design-to-code workflow. The engineer will work on scalable UI component architecture, accessibility standards, and AI-assisted automation to improve developer productivity across the company. The position bridges foundational front-end work with emerging AI technologies that reshape how products are built.

What you'd do

• Develop and maintain reusable UI components and primitives powering Dropbox's design system
• Design AI-powered tooling and agent-driven workflows to accelerate design-to-code handoffs
• Partner with designers to translate design specifications into high-quality, accessible code
• Contribute to architecture and strategy for AI-native UX development, including LLM and agent integration
• Prototype and productionize concepts exploring the future of design systems
• Embed WCAG standards and accessibility best practices into components and AI workflows
• Create clear documentation for both human engineers and AI agents consuming the design system
• Participate in code reviews and design critiques to maintain quality standards
• Support internal teams by troubleshooting issues and improving system reliability
• Experiment with emerging AI technologies and translate findings into practical tooling improvements
• Provide occasional on-call support for bugs and outages

What they're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
• Five or more years of front-end development experience, including design system or shared platform work
• Advanced proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript with deep expertise in modern frameworks like React
• Demonstrated ability to architect scalable, maintainable front-end systems for complex applications
• Hands-on experience integrating or building with AI/ML tools such as LLM APIs, agent frameworks, or automation pipelines
• Solid understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG, ARIA) and implementation in reusable systems
• Proven collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and clear technical communication

Nice to have

• Experience designing or building AI-native developer tools or agent-based systems
• Track record contributing to large-scale design systems or platform teams
• Familiarity with prompt engineering and LLM output evaluation
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and design system distribution tooling
• Strong testing expertise (unit, visual, integration) for UI component libraries
